Christmas and New Years, 2009
Dear Friends of Bon Secours Spiritual Center.
As we bid “adieu” to 2009 we are graced with one last moment reminding us of what this and every year is about. Christmas is an “Outpost Feast” for me. It is a moment and a place to reconnoiter, to take our bearings from where we have been and look to where we are headed, an opportunity to reflect and refocus our way into the days and the New Year ahead.
We have been through a tough year. It has been for many of us one of the hardest we remember. Economic, emotional, physical and spiritual challenges abound and fear settled into the hearts of many folk this year, scheming us into regretting; mourning the losses that “got by” us; clutching for what is gone and bracing our hearts for what is ahead.
To those folk Christmas is often a day of disappointment, even of dread. It sadly reinforces the awareness of what we do not have or what we lack of what we expected to be ours.
In the tough years, we especially need an “Outpost” feast. We need to pause and hear God say to us through the song of the angels or the voices of friends or the voice of the Christ, we are not alone, abandoned or abused. Indeed, love abounds! As you recognize God breaking through your disappointments, hear the invitation, let go of your fear and welcome the fullness of life and God’s love in Christ, Give in!
I invite you, today, to let God fill you with all the love, the joy and the stamina you need to embrace today and move with joy into the New Year. And may you recognize and rejoice with all the holy ones that you, and we, are indeed richly blessed and mightily loved.
All of us, the Sisters and Staff at Bon Secours Spiritual Center, pray that this “Outpost” moment will allow you to gently turn and to see the ways God’s love and care is opening for you and leading you into 2010. May you be liberated from all that holds you from rejoicing in the fullness, joy and the healing love and compassion of our good God. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
