In the last year we have been fortunate to meet and join with various groups whose mission complements the mission and charism of Bon Secours and our commitment to help people come to wholeness in mind, body and spirit. We have recently been introduced to the Rebuilding Together group and its work of assisting people in need in Howard County.
Each year thousands of volunteers from across the nation join forces to renovate and repair homes for low-income families through Rebuilding Together, the nation's leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities. On a national level, Rebuilding Together is a network of more than 200 affiliates that provide free rehabilitation and critical repairs to the homes of low-income Americans.
Even in a wealthy area such as Howard County, there is still great need for the free services that Rebuilding Together Howard County provides. Over the years, the board and thousands of volunteers have repaired and refurbished more than 500 homes. The group's core initiative is to provide free services on National Rebuilding Day, which will take place this year on the weekend of April 24-25. Rebuilding Together provides the cost-effective leveraging of donated materials, supplies and labor to ensure a warm, safe and dry home for low-income homeowners, families, individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and veterans in Howard County.
Improving life situations and encouraging people to assist and support one another by sharing their talents and skills clearly demonstrates the Bon Secours charism of Compassion and Liberation.
